Process
Fabrics go through four different processes before the fabric is ready for use.
Print - Dyes are printed onto the surface of the fabric but not fixed.
Steam - The fabric is then steamed for 1 hour to fix the dyes into the fibres.
Wash - Fabrics are then washed for 2 hours to remove excess dye & the coating.
Dry - The fabric is then hung up to dry naturally. It is recommended that it is then ironed.

Fabrics
Please note these prices are per metre, you do not have to buy a metre it is just a rough guide and there is no minimum order.
Fabrics for the digital printer are pre-treated with a coating to enable the dyes to fix.
This pre-treatment of the fabric allows you to obtain a wider range of colour and achieves optimised colour matching.
It is not possible to print onto uncoated fabric and so we stock a wide range of fabrics.
After washing, the fabric no longer has the coating or ink residues and will have a better feel. Moreover, it will be less prone to stains and will last longer. Please note that after the fabric has been steamed & washed there will be some slight shrinkage in the width & length. This will differ with every fabric as they are made from different fibres.
Although every effort will be made to colour match, it is worth noting that colours will appear different on different fabrics.
Colours appear more vivid on silks as they have a sheen on the surface and reflect light, whereas cottons tend to appear more matt.

Producing a repeat pattern
The mimaki printer can print straight match repeats both horizontally & vertically.
If you wish to produce a pattern that is to be repeated, it is your responsibility to make sure that the pattern seamlessly joins
at the top, bottom & sides of your repeat tile. Bring your single repeat tile, which we can then repeat over a specified length.
Please see DDS staff for any help with producing a repeat pattern or repeat tile.
It is recommended that you check your designs thouroughly before handing them in to be printed.
