Printing
Laser printing is an electrostatic digital printing process. It produces high-quality text and graphics (and satisfactory-quality photographs) by repeatedly passing a laser beam back and forth over a negatively-charged cylinder called a "drum" to define a differentially-charged image. The drum then selectively collects electrically-charged powdered ink (toner), and transfers the image to paper, which is then heated to permanently fuse the text, imagery, or both, to the paper.
Our Xerox PrimeLink C9065 colour laser printer is used for printing posters, zines, publications or books and business cards.

Papers
We stock Xerox Colotech+ Matt or Silk paper at different weights here in the Digital Print Bureau, it is specially coated to go through our Laser printer. It can print double sided and will take paper up to 350gsm in weight.
The laser printer will take paper sizes A4 / A3 / SRA3. To print at any other size, please make sure that it fits onto these standard A sizes, it can be cut down to the desired size after printing.
The Matt paper is white and the Silk is an off white colour.

Can we print on different paper stock?
The Art Shop here at Bower Ashton stock a wide range of papers. Most are supplied in large sheet sizes which we can then be cut down to size on our guillotine to put through the Laser printer.
It is worth noting that the colour reproduction will be compromised on your own paper due to it being uncoated for our Xerox printer, therefore it is always worth doing a test print before committing to the final print.
We have a materials library of printed examples on the papers supplied in the Art Shop, they can be found both here in Digital Print and in the Art Shop. Please ask a member of staff if you would like to look at them and we can advise.
If you would like to bring in your own paper please be aware that we cannot print on any paper under the weight of 70gsm and a maximum of 350gsm.
The printer will not print to the edge of the paper. It will always have a 5 mm boarder all the way around.
If you need a full bleed you can print onto larger paper and cut it down to size.

What about Newsprint for Newspapers?
We cannot print on Newsprint, it is too thin to go through our printers and will ruin the print heads!
An alternative is sugar paper as it has a similar look to Newsprint. (available in the Art Shop)
If you require Newsprint there is a company called The Newspaper Club where you can order zines online.

Notes

Preparing Files
It is best to save your file with a name that you (and we) can recognise, include the paper type and if you want double sided (Duplex) or single sided sheets, e.g. Johnsbook-A4-matt120gsm-doublesided.pdf
